What's Gateway to Hope University?
Gateway to Hope University (GTHU) is the training program of the Hope and Healing Center & Institute. We developed GTHU to provide you with the training needed to help you recognize, refer, relate, and respond to individuals who might be suffering from mental distress. We offer evidence-based mental and behavioral health training, resources, and ongoing support to individuals, faith communities, schools, and workplaces.
All of our online trainings are available through our Learning Portal in both English and Spanish.
Is Gateway to Hope University separate from the Hope and Healing Center & Institute?

The Hope Line - How can I get help?
Are you going through a tough time? Do you need someone to talk to? You are not alone.
Talk with someone who understands. Call The Hope Line at (832)-831-PEER (7337), available daily from 5-8pm CST. A safe place to unwind for free, 30-minute peer counseling over the phone.
- Mental health coaching is compassionate, confidential, and judgment-free.
- Support for anxiety, depression, loneliness, relationship challenges, trauma, grief, stress, and more.
- Receive referrals from our vetted provider network.
- Available in English and Spanish.

How can I take the Gateway to Hope University trainings?
To access our online trainings, visit our Learning Portal. There, you will find our Training Course Catalog with all available trainings in English and Spanish. Click the ‘see more’ button to view your desired training.
- The training consists of individual lessons that can be completed all at once or based on your schedule.
- You can complete the training at any time and it is compatible with all devices.
- Once you have completed all the modules, there is a final quiz you will need to complete and pass to receive your Certificate of Completion.

Do I have to take all three trainings?
No, but each Empower Training equips you with how to respond in different situations.
- Empower Faith Communities equips faith leaders, volunteers, and communities with techniques for identifying mental distress, responding compassionately, and building a network to quickly connect those in mental distress with professional care.
- Empower Schools equip teachers, administrators, and those working with children to respond. You will learn techniques for identifying mental distress in children and adolescents, implementing safe and effective situational responses, and helping connect those in mental distress with professional care.
- Empower Workplaces equips you and your colleagues with the tools to recognize signs of mental health concerns and foster a supportive work culture. Our training will equip you with the techniques for identifying mental distress, developing safe and effective situational responses, and helping connect those in mental distress with professional care and resources within the organization’s guidelines.

Are group trainings available?
For groups larger than 10, the Gateway to Hope University Team will set-up a dedicated registration training link upon request. All resources are embedded into the course.
